Resistor Berdasarkan Konstruksinya

Berdasarkan jenis dan bahan yang digunakan untuk membuat resistor dibedakan menjadi resistor kawat,resistor arang dan resistor oksida logam. resistor arang dan resistor oksida logam berdasarkan susunan yang dikenal resistor komposisi dan resistor film.

Namun dalam perdagangan resistor-resistor tersebut dibedakan menjadi resistor tetap dan resistor variabel, untuk daya rendah paling banyak digunakan resistor tetap, ukuran relatif semua tahanan tetap dan tidak tetap berubah terhadap rating daya (jumlah watt).

Tahanan yang berubah-ubah, seperti yang tercantum dari namanya memiliki sebuah terminal tahanan yang dapat diubah harganya dengan memutar dial, knob, ulir atau apa saja yang sesuai untuk aplikasi. mereka bisa memiliki dua atau tiga terminal akan tetapi kebanyakan memiliki tiga terminal.

Jika dua atau tiga terminal digunakan untuk mengendalikan besar tegangan, maka biasanya disebut potensiometer. meskipun sebenarnya piranti tiga terminal tersebut dapat digunakan sebagai rheostat atau potensiometer (tergantung dari bagaimana dihubungkan).

Kebanyakan potensiometer mempunyai tiga terminal. dial, knob dan ulir pada tengah kemasanya mengendalikan gerak sebuah kontak yang dapat bergerak sepanjang element hambatan yang di hubungkan antara dua terminal luar. tahanan antara terminal luar selalu tetap pada harga penuh yang terdapat pada potensiometer.

Tidak terpengaruhi pada lengan geser.tahanan antara lengan geser dengan salah satu terminal luar dapat di ubah-ubah yaitu dari harga nol ohm sampai harga maksimum yang sama dengan harga penuh potensiometer tersebut.

Jumlah tahanan antara lengan geser dan masing-masing terminal luar harus sama besar dengan tahanan penuh potesiometer.apabila tahanan antara lengan geser dan salah satu kontak luar meningkat, maka tahanan antara lengan geser dan salah satu terminal luar lain akan berkurang.

Macam-mascam resistor tetap:

* metal film resistor
* metal oxide resistor
* carbon film resistor
* ceramic encased wirewound
* economy wirewound
* zero ohm jumper wire
* s i p resistor network

Macam-macam resistor variabel :

* potensiometer, ada 2 jenis yaitu linier dan logaritmis
* trimer-potensiometer
* thermister, ada 2 jenis juga yaitu ptc (positive tempratur coefisien) dan ntc (negative tempratur coefisien)
* dr
* vdr
